Gratitude for Judgments

Why would I have returned home early today
were it not for the paled skin
the heated brow
the reddened swell under my eyes?

How would I have known
the care I dearly need
were it not for the cold sweat
the fever
the fatigue?

And how else would life sign to us
(and we take notice)
were it not for the heat
the changing winds
the omens of death?

Our very souls speak to us
call to us
to heed and listen
cry and move to tears.

There is no going back

there never was.
Only going home
and taking care.

  1. Lovely. It is indeed hard to stop long enough to take heed and listen to the whispers of the soul.
