The opening gate
fragile moments of the unknown
when simply having the gall
doesn’t bring one to
step inside.
When confronting the other
means confronting our shadow
and the only way forward
is bearing one’s all
to the universe
and risking the very possibility of death
for the sake of witnessing life.
For the sake of really living.
The opening gate,
and I, the gatekeeper,
opening my heart to the darkness
and shining.

One of the things that I love about America is the right to voice our opinions and beliefs and (excluding politicians) disagree with love, kindness and respect. I think debate (communication) only expands ones knowledge and understanding – no need to get uptight! I love the poem above and where it says “bearing one’s all to the universe”, and knowing that universe could be a symbol for a “higher being”, from my experience, I would insert the word God. Just a comment.
Thank you for your insight, Kathy! Indeed, I envisioned “universe” as being one’s own highest spiritual “partner,” the one with whom we enter into a dialogue that is nothing less than a dialogue concerning our deepest purpose and drive for living. I’m really pleased that someone else tapped into that from what I wrote ^_^
